Salida Police Department Records
Salida Police operates from the Touber Building complex at 448 East First Street. Its work includes patrol, traffic, investigations, municipal-court security, and code enforcement, so the records unit may hold more than a short arrest entry. SPD also holds Colorado professional-standards accreditation. Depending on the event and release rules, a file can include an incident narrative, crash report, citation, photographs, or video.
The records form asks for requester contact and identification data, the desired product, and a case or report number when available. Attach a copy of the driver's license as the form directs. Requesting Salida Police Records
Narrow requests are easier for staff to route and estimate. Specify a criminal case report, DUI report, traffic citation, crash report, video, or other known item. Include the date, names, and incident number. Asking for every document about a broad subject can require more search and review time, while a precise request helps the custodian find the file and apply the right redactions.
SPD allows three working days for its search. It may add seven working days if a file is inactive, the request is substantially large, or administrative review is needed. The department says it will notify the requester before the first period expires and provide an estimated cost. Changing the scope restarts the process as a new request. If SPD did not create the record, staff may refer the requester to the district attorney or a court. That referral means another custodian holds the file.
Colorado police reports can be withheld or redacted when an investigation, court order, victim or minor privacy, or another legal limit applies. A request should seek the releasable portion rather than assume that every page must be open.
Salida Arrests and Bookings
Salida does not publish an independent city detention center. When SPD takes someone into custody for booking, the Chaffee County detention system becomes the source for intake and custody facts. SPD remains the source for its investigative narrative. A summons release may produce no jail booking at all. Those two paths explain why an incident can appear in police or court records without a county booking.
Follow a custody event through three identifiers: the SPD incident number, the Chaffee booking number, and the municipal or state court case number. They do not have to match. Call sheriff records or detention when no public county roster answers the question. VINELink may provide custody status or notification for a covered person, but it is not a full Salida arrest history.

Video can cost more because it may require review and redaction rather than a simple page copy. Ask for an estimate before authorizing costly work.
Municipal Court Records in Salida
Salida Municipal Court is a court of record for municipal criminal, traffic, parking, and code matters. It sits in Room 190 of the Touber Building and uses the C Street entrance. Ask for each product by name. A docket or register tracks events. The final disposition states the outcome. Certification is a separate clerk service. Court staff can answer process questions but cannot give legal advice.
Salida Municipal or State Case
The fact that an SPD officer issued a citation does not guarantee that Salida Municipal Court holds the case. City ordinance matters go there. State Patrol and sheriff citations go to the named state court, and some SPD incidents are charged under state law in Chaffee Combined Court. Read the court name and case number on the citation before contacting a clerk.
For a state matter, the Colorado Judicial Branch docket filtered to Chaffee can show a hearing card with party, case number, time, courtroom, and appearance mode. It is only a hearing calendar. Order the case register, complaint, disposition, or other releasable documents from Chaffee Combined Court at 142 Crestone Avenue. For a city matter, stay with the municipal clerk.
A single event can also produce both city and state files. When two citations name different courts, check each one. Do not use an absent municipal search result to infer that no state case exists.
Where Salida Records Go
An SPD incident starts as a city police record. If an arrest requires intake, Chaffee detention creates a separate booking file. A municipal charge goes to Salida Municipal Court, while a state misdemeanor or felony goes to Chaffee Combined Court. The court can show amended counts, plea, judgment, and sentence. CBI can show a statewide arrest and disposition summary, but a missing outcome may need a certified court record and CBI update request.
Searchers should move from the newest creator to the final custodian. Start with SPD for its report, then use detention and the named court, and reserve CBI for the statewide layer.
Sealing Salida Municipal Records
Salida publishes a detailed municipal sealing order. It identifies the case and defendant, records whether the $65 fee is paid, split into two or three installments, or waived after an indigency finding, and names the custodians that must process the order. The form anticipates an optional $28.95 CBI payment that the city court cannot waive.
A signed order may therefore need action by Salida Municipal Court, SPD, Chaffee Sheriff Records, the city prosecutor, and CBI. Obtain a signed copy. Verify that each named custodian received it, allow processing time, and then check the official systems again. A sealed conviction is restricted from ordinary public access; the order does not vacate the conviction.
